Cedarbrook drops two to Bethesda UMC - 6/2/2005 -In 2 games Cedarbrook found it's bats only in the first, but still came up short losing two to the home team.Game 1: While the offense was there for Cedarbrook, scoring 8 in the 5th, Bethesda answered with 7 in the bottom of the 5th and Cedarbrook just could not recover losing a close game.
Game 2: In game 2 Cedarbrook, seeming demoralized droped another game only able to muster 4 runs and final losing to the 10 run rule after 6.
Cedarbrook aplits 2 games with Damascus/Wesley Grove UMC - 5/21/2005 -In 2 games without an ump, a makeshift strikezone, but a different spirit Cedarbrook split the 2 gamesGame 1: Trailing in the first game by a run going into the top of the 7th David Hochheiser hit a 2 run homerun to give the Cedarbrook team a 1 run leave, but he gave it up on a 3 run homer that was almost caught by Ryan Geneman who gave his all going to the fence to make a catch on the homerun ball with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th.
Game 2: In game 2, a low scoring battle Cedarbrook pulled it out with good defensive play and a couple of big hits. The lowlight of this game was losing Mike Johnson to a broken colar bone injury he will be out for the rest of the season. Ryan Geneman also was injured with a pulled muscle and is day to day.
Cedarbrook drops 2 to Grace Community/St. Paul- 5/14/2005 -In games marred by competition, a bad spirit, Cedarbrook lost both games of a doubleheader to Grace/St. PaulGame 1: The first game was close 11-15 Cedarbrook lost. Taking an early lead against a team that was extremely competative things looked good in the start, but the aggressive spirit of the other team proved to much. Playing much more like a team in a competative league than in a Church leage we fell.
Game 2: I won't say much about this game other than let's hope we don't have another encounter with a team like this.
Cedarbrook sweeps Damascus Wesleyan - 5/7/2005 -Cedarbrook swept 2 games against Damascus WesleyanGame 1: With a lean team of only 10 Cedarbrook beat an undermatched Damascus Wesleyan team. Highlighted by scoring 17 runs in the 3rd inning.
Game 2: The 2nd game was not much closer than the first and another big inning (11 in the 5th) highlighed this game.
Cedarbrook gets split against St. Anne's Episcopal - 4/21/2005 -Cedarbrook softball split it's two games on the 21st against St. Anne's Episcopal Church 10-11 and 12-3.Game 1: Cedarbrook lost the first game 11-10 on a walk off bottom of the 7th home run. In this game Don Frazier went down for the season breaking his ankle sliding into third base in the 4th inning on a triple (he was safe). Please pray for quick healing for Don. Cedarbrook spotted St. Anne's 8 runs to start this game and left a number of runner on base. Ken Jackson could not find enough power in the top of the 7th to knock one out with 2 runners on that would have given Cedarbrook a 3 run cushion going into the bottom of the 7th. Instead it was a flyout to end the inning. David Hochheiser got one up to the first batter in the bottom of the 7th for a walk off homerun.
Game 2: In the 2nd game Cedarbrook took an early lead and never trailed going on for an easy win. Defense and pitching held St. Anne's to only 3 runs the entire game. Walt McGee went 4 for 4 with a home run and a double as he continued his torid hitting pace in the early season. Matthew McCabe seemed poised to take a spot with Cedarbrook pastors who can hit the long ball as he went 3 for 3 with a homerun in this game.
Cedarbrook wins opening 2! - 4/14/2005 -Cedarbrook won it's first two softball games of the season beating Redeemer Lutheran 13-8 and 15-5.Game 1: In the first game Cedarbrook got off to a fast start scoring most of it's runs in the early going behind home runs from Eddie Mendez and David Hochheiser, but it took a late home run from Ryan Geneman to seal the victory. Ken Jackson got off to a fast start by going 3 for 3 in this game, but his power eluded him as he only had singles.
Game 2: In the 2nd game Ryan Geneman earned a nickname from me "The Monster" by going 3 for 3 with 2 homers and a seeing eye tripe while knocking in 6 runs. This game started out roughly for the Cedarbrook team as they had a tough time getting out of the first inning letting Redeemer Lutheran bat around and score 5 runs. It took a nice play by Eddie Mendez at 3rd base that got Cedarbrook out of the inning when an overrun of the base by a Redeemer player led to the 3rd out of the inning. Cedarbrook did not allow another run score after that and the slaughter rule was in affect after the 5th. Of note Walt McGee went 3 for 3 driving in 4 runs as Cedarbrooks bat's and defense seemed to be hitting on all cylinders this day.
